Women, Trans Inclusive Spaces & Trans Athletes

National conversations about women’s rights and trans rights are coming to a head – this session explains what is happening and how we can support and include everyone

During the 2020 Olympics the conversation about trans athletes was debated with renewed vigour when New Zealand put forward a Trans weightlifter into the women’s weightlifting competition.

At the same time, with violence against women and girls being under the spotlight in the UK too, people have been asking: how do we protect the rights of one group without creating conflict for the rights of another? Moreover, how to we do this without misunderstanding the risks faced by different groups?

This session takes very sensitive subjects and brings you on a journey through the realities of the lived experiences of women and trans people, and asks the questions – how can we meet the needs of both? And where do the dangers to both groups truly lie?
